Golf Club Cold Case - The Answers
Murder Investigation Report
Following Georgia King’s untimely death, Suzy Diamond was quickly found guilty of her murder. At the time it was determined that Suzy's putter was used as the murder weapon, and - alongside rumours of Georgia getting back with Tommy - the detective at the time didn't put too much thought into this case, and decided she was guilty.
Following the new telematic and ANPR evidence, it was clear without a doubt that Suzy was innocent, and in fact wasn’t even at the golf club when the murder happened.
From the locker room Keycard Log it is clear when the murder happened. Georgia enters the locker room to put her newly purchased balls away at 10:02, and is followed in one minute later by somebody else. That person then leaves the locker room at 10:05.
The Suspects
Tommy King
Tommy King still loved Georgia. He got to the golf club early so he could try to convince Georgia to come back to him and save their marriage.
After he confronted Georgia - both outside and inside the club - he went to the toilet to cry and then sort himself out before leaving.
He was no longer a member so he didn't have access to the Locker Room and so wouldn't have been able to kill Georgia in there. As we know that this is where the murder happened, it could not have been Tommy.
Arthur Flop
Arthur Flop has lost his job and needed the money when JP Wong offered him a bribe to help his boss Mr Li take over the golf club.
Georgia finds Arthur's copy of the Housing Development plans that Mr Li intends on building over the back nine holes of the club.
When Georgia calls the emergency meeting Arthur realises he's lost his version of the plans, and calls Mr Li fearing the worst.
While Arthur might have been capable of carrying out the murder for the right price, he doesn't have the opportunity to do so, as his whereabouts are always corroborated by someone else (Charlotte, Pam and JP), and his story lines up perfectly with the timeline of events.
JP Wong
JP Wong would do anything for his boss and had almost unlimited resources to achieve these ends. Li wants Georgia to be “gotten rid of,” and JP can make that happen.
He gets his best results when he co-opts others to do the work for him. Rest assured he would get the job done. He’d already got Arthur to help him to infiltrate the club and use his guest passes.
Georgia's email makes it clear that everyone needs their blue jacket for the emergency meeting she called, but her text messages with Suzy show that Georgia doesn't have hers. Arthur says JP was “looking sharp in his standard black and white monochrome look”.
The thread found at the scene was blue - we can assume that this thread came from the distinctive blue committee jackets. This means the murderer must have had a blue jacket, as Georgia was not wearing hers, and JP was wearing black and white that day.
Charlotte Heart
Charlotte Heart was Georgia's rival her whole life. They had grown up together but their rivalry always remained healthy. Despite disagreements about the way the club should develop (or not), Charlotte did not kill Georgia.
She remained in the Players’ Lounge after she finished up the putting practice with Pam.
The fatal blow to their head was delivered by someone who was right-handed. Charlotte’s player stats make it clear that she’s left-handed.
Chad Rivers
Chad Rivers was a good golfer, but probably not Pro level. He overcame this with a cunning scheme to use electromagnets to attract his special golf balls into the holes.
Georgia's letter to Chad was clear: she knew what he was doing and if he didn't come forward she would expose him for his cheating. He had two options - fess up or resign - either option would lead to him losing his job and visa and result in him being deported back to the US with no hope of getting another Pro job in a golf club.
As a "Pro" he was unable to take part in the Golden Tee competition and so the tee found on the scene was neither his nor Georgia's - who also didn't take part.
Chad was in the shop the whole morning and only left to let Suzy into the locker room where they both found the body.
Pamela Heart
So we are left with Pamela Heart.
Pam didn't want Georgia becoming captain at all, let alone ahead of her own daughter. She was worried about the direction the club would move in. After Georgia threatened to expose the cheating of Chad, her lover, Pam saw her world falling apart. Action must be taken to prevent Georgia from ruining her beloved club, and blackmailing her sweet sweet Chad.
When Chad went into the Pro Shop storage room to select more putters, Pam saw the opportunity. She followed Georgia into the locker room and picked up Suzy's putter.
Suzy's clubs weren't in her locker as it had been “jamming” which is why she needed Chad's help on that day.
Georgia was putting her newly purchased golf balls away in her own locker, so it was easy for Pam to sneak up on her. One fatal blow to the head was enough.
Georgia lay on the floor dead and Pam made haste on her return to the Pro Shop before Chad had returned with a dozen more putters for her to try - Chad being completely unaware of what had just happened.
Chad would have lied for Pam, but her timings meant he had no idea that she had nipped out to commit a horrific and brutal murder.
And there you have it…
Pamela Heart; a vicious killer, driven by love and a fear of change. She seized the opportunity, and tried to frame poor Suzy for the crime.
In the end it seems that Mr Li will get his new development, thanks to the work of JP and the willingness of Arthur. Chad may just keep his visa due to his innocence (despite momentarily appearing to be an accomplice), and Tommy had his membership reinstated. Charlotte became the Ladies Captain, although she now won’t have her mother close by for support, as Pamela will be going away for a long time.
It took a while, but we finally managed to get to the Heart of the matter...
